"Classic AZ" by gwrhino "Classic AZ" by gwrhino
...from the "Winter Solstice Portfolio".....

some days are just better than others. In this case the silhouetted mountain glows redder than a momma in the setting sun, but everyone shoots that. I shot the "evening location" in the morning just to try to do something kinda like this.

One of my all-time best IMO..

OK, I understand some out there are impressed by degree-of-difficulty, you know the idea that the more pain endured getting there the better the image. Just to let you know, I'm into myth-building as much as the next guy, so heres MY story behind this image.

In this case, the shot was within 50 yards of the road and as such qualifies as pure roadkill. However. I did pre-scout camera location AND placement the night before, and because of said scouting knew I needed my big tripod and the stool from the camper so I could see through the camera.

So to round it up, no real pain, but I did have to carry the big tripod and the stool - twice.

The lighting turned out good with the sidlight on the cacti and backlighting on the mountain. An impossibility, but the lighting stands out on this.
